Metal & Karat Guide
This guide explains everything about the metals and karat purities used in Aurlet jewellery what the numbers mean, which gold is right for your lifestyle, and exactly what goes into every piece.
UNDERSTANDING KARAT — WHAT THE NUMBER MEANS
Every Aurlet piece comes with a karat number — 6KT, 8KT, 10KT, 12KT, or 14KT. This number tells you exactly how much of your piece is pure gold.
The term 'karat' (KT) refers to a scale of 24 parts. 24KT would be 100% pure gold — but pure gold is too soft to be worn as jewellery. So it is alloyed with other metals (silver, copper, palladium) to make it stronger. The karat number tells you how many of those 24 parts are gold.
| Karat | Purity | Stamp | Gold Content | Character |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 KT | 25.0% | 250 | 6 parts gold / 18 parts alloy | Hardest, most resistant. Great for slim, delicate pieces worn daily. |
| 8 KT | 33.3% | 333 | 8 parts gold / 16 parts alloy | Durable with a slightly warmer tone. Excellent for rings and bracelets. |
| 10 KT | 41.7% | 417 | 10 parts gold / 14 parts alloy | A popular balance of strength and gold richness. Very wearable. |
| 12 KT | 50.0% | 500 | 12 parts gold / 12 parts alloy | Half gold, half alloy. Noticeably warmer colour, still sturdy. |
| 14 KT | 58.5% | 585 | 14 parts gold / 10 parts alloy | Rich, warm gold tone. The classic fine jewellery choice. |
A common misconception: lower karat gold is not 'fake' or inferior. It simply contains more alloy, which makes it harder and more suitable for everyday wear. A 6KT ring will outlast a 22KT ring in daily use because it is physically tougher.

ABOUT THE ALLOYS — WHAT'S MIXED WITH YOUR GOLD
The metals used alongside gold in our alloys are chosen specifically for skin safety and durability.
| Metal | Used In | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Silver | Yellow Gold alloys | Softens colour, improves workability |
| Copper | Yellow & Rose Gold alloys | Adds strength, gives rose gold its blush tone |
| Palladium / White metals | White Gold alloys | Creates the silvery finish, increases hardness |
